Brother Chad Graves preached a sermon on this text this morning. If you haven’t heard that sermon yet I strongly suggest you flip over to our sermons tab and check it out!

As he preached this text on Mary, and how she is being told she will birth Jesus I couldn’t help but notice the response that Mary gave.

The text first says “she was troubled” when she was told. Mary had every reason to be troubled. To be anxious, scared, worried, all the emotions that the phrase “troubled” brings to mind. She had so many reasons to question God, to want to understand why her, what made her special, to ask questions about how she would handle raising the Savior of the world.

But her response, in my opinion, shows exactly why she was chosen by God for this enormous task.

In Luke 1:38 we read her response to the angle, “Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

Her faith is shown in such a massive way here. Moments after receiving the news that she will become pregnant and bear the Son of God. She was troubled, but her faith was stronger than the doubt. Her faith was stronger than the fear. Her faith was stronger than all else friends.

The faith of Mary, unwavering faith, trusting that God would provide and lead her down the path He had for her. That is the faith that I was drawn to as brother Chad preached this morning. The faith that caused God to choose Mary to birth the savior of the entire world, God in flesh, the most important birth of all time.

I pray today, that you would experience that faith in your life. That just like Mary, when God puts a calling on your life, you respond “let it be according to Your word”. That you would not let fear or doubt or tricks of the devil discourage or distract you from the plans that God has for your life!
